According to Webster’s Dictionary, a Drag Queen can be defined as, “a usually homosexual man who dresses as a woman and performs as an entertainer especially to caricature stereotypically vampish women.” In ancient times drag was just the art of crossdressing or wearing items intended for the opposite sex. Many ancient civilizations like the Native Americans, Egyptians, and the Aztecs and Incas would crossdress in different religious celebrations and ceremonies. Ancient Greek plays would only allow men to perform therefore the female roles would be played by men. Japanese theater styles like Kabuki and Noh would have men perform as women in makeup, wigs, and dresses.
