“Untucked” is a sort of spin off show from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Every episode, RuPaul and the judges deliberate while the contestants are sent offstage. During the show all you see is the deliberation and not what happens backstage. After the first season of Drag Race people who watched the show wanted to see more of what happened backstage. Thus, “Untucked” was born. Every episode of “Untucked” starts with a line spoken by RuPaul. She says, “Girl, if you’re not watching ‘Untucked’, you’re only getting half the story.” In many cases she is right. Not only does the show’s name entail a joke about “tucking”, one major part of creating the female illusion if you know what I mean, but it also delves deep into personal stories, drama, and the Queens behind the looks and comedy. Many famous, quotable fights in RuPaul’s Drag Race happen in Untucked. In Season 2, there was the infamous Morgan McMichaels v.s. Mystique about why one another had bad looks and a bad attitude. There was also Tatianna v.s. Tyra Sanchez in Season 2. One of the most memorable fights that ended in shade and tears during their wedding theme challenge. In Season 3 Shangela defended herself when Mimi Imfurst said she had sugar daddies. That argument is well remembered by drag fans, cocktail throwing and all. In more recent seasons queens have not fought as much until now. A few weeks ago, in Season 10’s untucked, the Vixen fought with not only Aquaria but also Eureka a couple episodes later. Drag fans are very entertained in this new mix up and are happy to see the drama and conflama and tom foolery, as Queen Alyssa Edwards would say. Not only are their catfights but there are rants and drama too. In Season 6, Laganja Estranja was accused of having a fake personality by many of her fellow queens. She broke down yelling, “I feel very attacked!” and still has never resolved the personality issue. In Season 8 Acid Betty complained about the drag makeup of Trixie Mattel who wasn’t even on her season. This cast evidently had a live finale where fans can ask questions via microphone. Trixie then decided to confront Acid Betty saying she would take the answer to her question in the parking lot after the show. Another iconic rant was the Valentina rant by Aja in Season 9. This rant is arguably the most quoted Untucked moment. Aja was sick of the judges loving contestant Valentina for what seemed like nothing so she went on and on impersonating the judges' reaction to Valentina. "You're perfect , you're beautiful , you look like Linda Evangelista. You're a model. Everything about you is perfect! Did you stone those tights? Oh, you're smiling! They eat her up EVERY SINGLE TIME she's on that damned stage. She could walk out there in a ******* diaper and they'll be like: "Valentina! Your smile is beautiful!." Most importantly, Untucked brings families and queens together. Once in a while the queens will watch a video message from a friend or family member of one of the queens. This usually ends in tears and queens talking out their issues from back at home and coming together.
All in all “Untucked” is a great way to keep up in the drag world. Plus this year it is even easier to watch. Drag Race decided to make a televised “Untucked” instead of a web series. After every episode of Drag Race you watch Untucked for half an hour for Season 10. To re-quote RuPaul “If you’re not watching ‘Untucked’, you’re only getting half the story!”
